Trio

Trio is a thought-provoking and symbolic painting that critiques the way women are often viewed and treated in society. Through surreal and metaphorical imagery, I explore how women are objectified—seen at times as commodities to be bought, consumed, or discarded. The painting reflects on the harsh realities many women face, especially in times of financial crisis, uncertainty about the future, and economic instability. These three forces—money, crisis, and future—are the titular “trio” that often work together to trap or break women, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation.

In the composition, I portray a half-woman, half-banana figure—an unsettling yet striking visual metaphor. The banana represents how society reduces women to consumable objects, something to be “used” or “eaten” at will. When women are pushed into moments of desperation or hopelessness, when life becomes too complex to calculate or “solve like an equation,” many are left clinging to intangible beliefs—such as astrology or zodiac signs—as a final source of hope or meaning.

All these elements are deliberately woven into the painting, merging figuration and symbolism to reflect the dehumanizing lens through which women are often seen. Trio is a visual confrontation with that reality—a challenge to question, reflect, and resist.
