ABOUT ME

I’m MD Faim Islam, a Bangladeshi visual artist currently based in the West Midlands, UK. My work explores contemporary realism, focusing on how light, architecture, psychology, and symbolism interact on the canvas. Born on 11 November 1995 in Naogaon, a culturally rich region in northern Bangladesh, I’ve been connected to the world of art since childhood.

I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fine Arts from the University of Dhaka, one of the most respected art institutions in Bangladesh. In 2024, I completed my second Master’s in Fine Art at Birmingham City University, supported by the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust. These academic journeys have shaped my creative philosophy and allowed me to explore the evolving relationship between modernity and heritage, especially through the lens of visual storytelling.
My paintings are grounded in realism but often carry symbolic and surrealist elements, drawing inspiration from earlier fascinations with astronomy, archaeology, and zodiac symbolism. I’m particularly interested in colour theory, experimenting with colour tones, shading, and their emotional and psychological effects on viewers. I primarily work in acrylic, though I’ve also explored oil painting, always pushing boundaries through material experimentation.
To date, I’ve held two solo exhibitions: “Process, Practice, Perception” at Zainul Gallery, University of Dhaka (2023), and a second at The REP Theatre Birmingham (2024). My work has been recognised nationally and internationally. I received the Gold Medal for Best Painting from the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Birmingham, and the prestigious Bangabandhu Award during the 2018 Bangabandhu Art Exhibition, presented by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. I’ve also earned the Best Artist Award from Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall, University of Dhaka, as well as awards from Nepal and Malaysia, including the Artist of Excellence Award. I’ve participated in over 100 group exhibitions, workshops, and art events across Bangladesh and abroad.
Beyond the studio, I am deeply involved in cultural curation and community leadership. Since 2018, I’ve curated multiple exhibitions, including shows for artist Zamil Azad, Bohe Kal Nirobodhi Art Exhibition, and Bangabandhu Art Exhibition. I was also the Convenor of Mongol Shobhajatra in 2021 and 2022—a UNESCO-recognised Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, celebrating Bengali New Year through community-based artistic processions.
For me, art is not just visual—it is emotional, social, and political. I use my practice to ask questions, preserve memory, and build connections across cultures and generations. As both an artist and a cultural activist, I remain committed to pushing the boundaries of creativity while uplifting voices and stories from my heritag
